Sponsorship (Group) Guidelines

The Sponsorship (Group) program is an arrangement where the City of Cockburn makes a financial contribution to a significant event, activity, service or endeavour and in return, the City receives public recognition for its contribution.

Sponsorship creates mutually beneficial partnerships between the City and the community; it is both an opportunity to add value to the community and an investment in recognition opportunities that will advance the long term interests of the City of Cockburn and the recipient.

Who can apply?

You can apply for Sponsorship if you are a community group or organisation based in the City of Cockburn who:

  • Primarily services residents of the City.
  • Can demonstrate a high level of community support.
  • Can demonstrate financial stability and sound project management.

Applications are invited from community-managed groups, welfare, education, arts/cultural, youth, seniors, children, and related groups.

If you are a sporting team or club, you can apply if you:

  • Are representing at a significant event or activity at a National or International level for which you have been selected on the basis of your endeavours in your chosen activity, or
  • Are hosting a sporting event or activity in the City of Cockburn that is of State, National or International significance that will add value or benefits the community.

What can I apply for?

The event or activity must:

  • Be of benefit to the local community and/or the City of Cockburn generally.
  • Provide brand exposure and public recognition benefits to the City of Cockburn.
  • Increase awareness and raise the profile of the City of Cockburn, in line with its desired image.
  • Meet an identified need.
  • Not duplicate an activity already available in the local area.
  • Not run on the same date as another event in the City of Cockburn.

How much can I apply for?

The maximum funding available to any one group or organisation in the Sponsorship (Group) category will not exceed $20,000, however sponsorship is highly competitive and will generally be approved for a lesser amount.

Applications that can demonstrate a financial or in-kind contribution to the project or event will be considered favourably, as will those who source funding from other sources.

When can I apply?

Sponsorship (Group) applications will be open each year in March and September. Funding rounds are advertised publicly in local newspapers, on the City’s website, in e-newsletters, and the Cockburn Soundings newsletter.

Closing dates are noted on the online application forms, and will be assessed and notified within two months of the outcome of the application.

Projects or events must not commence within two months of the application closing date, as funding cannot be awarded retrospectively.

Limitations and Conditions

  • The successful request for Sponsorship in any year does not imply any ongoing commitment of the same or similar contribution in following years.
  • Funding will not be provided:
    • Retrospectively for events that have already occurred, or due to occur within two months’ of the application’s lodgment.
    • For personal items such as uniforms, food consumables or catering costs.

On every screen (page of the form) you will find a Form Navigation contents box, this links directly to every page of the application. Click the link to jump directly to the page you want.

You can also click 'next page' or 'previous page' on the top or bottom of each page to move forward or backward through the application.

If you wish to leave a partially completed application, press 'save' and log out. When you log back in and click on the 'My Submissions' link at the top of the screen, you will find a list of any applications you have started or submitted. You can reopen your draft application and start where you left off.

You can also download any application, whether draft or completed, as a PDF. Click on the 'Download' button located at the bottom of the last page of the application form.

You will find a Review and Submit button at the bottom of the Navigation Panel. You need to review your application before you can submit it.

Once you have reviewed your application you can submit it by clicking on 'Submit' at the top of the screen or on the navigation panel. You will not be able to submit your application until all the compulsory questions are completed.

Once you have submitted your application, no further editing or uploading of support materials is possible.

When you submit your application, you will receive an automated confirmation email with a copy of your submitted application attached. This will be sent to the email you used to register.

If you do not receive a confirmation of submission email then you should presume that your submission has NOT been submitted.

You may need to upload/submit attachments to support your application. This is very simple, but requires you to have the documents saved on your computer, or on a storage device.

You need to allow enough time for each file to upload before trying to attach another file. Files can be up to 25MB each; however, we do recommend trying to keep files to a maximum of 5MB – the larger the file, the longer the upload time.

A number of people can work on an application using the same log in details as long as only one person is working at a time. Ensure you save as you go.
