Sustainability Grants Guidelines

A Sustainability Grant assists Community Groups, local not-for-profit groups, Small businesses, Collective households and Schools to provide projects relating to the various sustainability themes that benefit residents of Cockburn.

Applications are up to $4,000. The amount awarded will depend on the strength of the application and the number of applications received.

What is a Sustainability Grant?

The Sustainability Grants Program provides funding for projects in Cockburn relating to the following sustainability themes:

Giving Back to improve social equity and involvement across the City e.g. Volunteering; helping those in need; providing opportunities to participate.

Protecting our Future to build resilience to climate change and safeguarding biodiversity e.g. Native landscaping and community gardens, education for climate change, preservation of natural areas.

Strong Communities to build community capacity e.g. Community development, training, workshops, events, inclusive neighbourhoods.

Water, Energy and Waste to promote resource use efficiency e.g. Increased recycling, composting, water and energy efficiency.

TravelSmart to facilitate the uptake of alternative transport e.g. End of trip facilities, TravelSmart events, education.

Healthy Lifestyles promoting opportunities for improved public health outcomes in the community e.g. Events, healthy lifestyle programs, education.

Who can apply?

Sustainability Grants are available to groups in the City who:

• primarily serve the residents of Cockburn and/or based in the City of Cockburn
• are a
  • Community Group
  • Not-for-profit organisation
  • Small business (less than 20 employees)
  • Collective household (2 or more households)
  • School (primary, secondary or K-12)

When can I apply?

Sustainability Grant applications are invited annually from all eligible groups.

The annual funding round will close on the 31 March each year. 

Limitations and Conditions

• Applicants must contact the Sustainability Officer on (08) 9411 3444 during business hours or email sustainability@cockburn.wa.gov.au to discuss the project before proceeding with an application.
• Projects must address at least one of the Sustainability Grant themes listed above.
• The successful request for a Sustainability Grant in any year does not imply any ongoing commitment of the same or similar contribution in following years.
• Applicants may only apply for one Sustainability Grant project each year.
• Projects which demonstrate significant in-kind and/or financial contribution will be considered favourably.
• Funding will not be provided:
  • retrospectively for projects that have already occurred or commenced prior to funding approval
  • if your project may present a hazard to the community or environment
  • if you have not acquitted any previous City of Cockburn funding
• Applicants may not seek funding for the following:
  • Renewable energy systems
  • Rainwater tanks
  • Grey water systems
  • Hot water systems
  • Labour costs
  • Costs associated with planning approvals

NAVIGATING (MOVING THROUGH) THE APPLICATION FORM

On the right hand side of every screen, there is a box which links directly to every page of the application. Click the link to jump directly to page you want.

You can also click 'next page' or 'previous page' on the top or bottom of each page to move forward or backward through the application.

SAVING YOUR DRAFT APPLICATION

If you wish to leave a partially completed application, press 'save' and log out. When you log back in and click on the My Applications link at the top of the screen, you will find a list of any applications you have started or submitted. You can reopen your draft application and start where you left off.

You can also download any application, whether draft or completed, as a PDF. Click on the Download button at the bottom of the application navigation panel.

SUBMITTING YOUR APPLICATION

You will find a Review button at the bottom of the Navigation Panel. You need to review your application before you can submit it.

Once you have reviewed your application you can submit it by clicking on 'Submit' at the top of the screen or on the navigation panel.  You will not be able to submit your application until all the compulsory questions are completed.

Once you have submitted your application, no further editing or uploading of support materials is possible.

When you submit your application, you will receive an automated confirmation email with a copy of your submitted application attached. This will be sent to the email you used to register.

If you do not receive a confirmation of submission email then your submission has NOT been received.

ATTACHMENTS AND SUPPORT DOCUMENTS

You may need to upload/submit attachments to support your application. This is very simple, but requires you to have the documents saved on your computer, or on a zip drive, or similar. You need to allow enough time for each file to upload before trying to attach another file. Files can be up to 25MB each; however, we do recommend trying to keep files to a maximum of 5MB the larger the file, the longer the upload time. If you are not able to upload a document, please contact us for support (see contact details above).

COMPLETING AN APPLICATION IN A GROUP/TEAM

A number of people can work on an application using the same log in details as long as only one person is working at a time. Ensure you save as you go.

SPELL CHECK

Most internet browsers (including Firefox v2.0 and above; Safari; and Google Chrome) have spell checking facilities built in you can switch this function on or off by adjusting your browser settings.
